Selecting an Appropriate Class Load

Common mistakes of first-time students!

  • NOTE!Taking too many credits
Some students simply enroll for too many hours of credit. If in doubt, take less.
  • NOTE!Failing to take developmental work first
  • If you score low in reading and/or writing, it is important to take the remedial classes as soon as possible. Strong reading and writing skills will help you to succeed in college, and all degrees require two writing classes.
  • Students in technical or science programs should also take math as soon as possible, especially if they place into MATH 074..
    • NOTE!Failing to take a balanced load
It is important to balance some required classes that interest you with some that don't. Likewise, mix some required difficult classes with some easier classes so you stay motivated and interested in school. Stop and smell the roses!
