Mary Assel has a BS in Teaching English as a Second Language from the University of New York State, an MA in Teaching English methods from Wayne State University, and a PhD from Wayne State in curriculum design. She has taught English as a Second language in Africa, the Middle East and the US for 29 years.

Ed Demerly has BA and MA degrees in English from Michigan State University, created and taught Dearborn Public Schools’ first ESL classes in the 1970s and has taught three years in Malaysia and Australia. He is a member of MITESOL, Michigan’s professional organization of English as a second language teachers, and has over twenty-five experience as an ESL teacher.

Marge has an associates degree in business from Henry Ford Community College.  She has been employed by the Dearborn Public Schools for twenty-seven years, with eleven of those years at HFCC as an instructional technician in the Media Center.  New to the institute, she brings with her years of experience in working with limited English proficient students, computer software, and language skills.
