Computer Software for Assisting Student Learning The SkillsBank4 program at the Learning Lab is an excellent supplemental learning resource and can provide you with additional out-of-class language practice. It is provided as a free service of the college and is available to all HFCC students. In addition, some instructors may assign SkillsBank4 activities as homework or extra credit.
To access SkillsBank4, you must first be logged in at your workstation. If your work station is not already logged in, do so by entering “lrcuser” for the user name and “lrc1” for the password (these can be found on the upper right corner of the computer).
Open the program by clicking on the Start Menu in the bottom left corner and selecting Programs ŕ SkillsBank4 ŕ Student Program (see illustration above).
IMPORTANT: SkillsBank4 can record your progress. In order for credit to be given to you for your work, however, you must log in with your user ID!
If you choose to log in as a registered user, you will be asked for your USER ID. Your USER ID is the first initial of your first name, the first initial of your last name, and the last four digits of your HANK ID.For Example: Ima Student’s Hank ID is 1234567. Her SkillsBank4 User ID would be IS4567.
If you enter a valid User ID, a password box will appear. Your password is your full last name (for Example, Ima Student’s password would be STUDENT).
You may be asked to select a class from a list of options. Click on a course name (it will turn blue when selected) to continue.
This
will open the main menu
screen. You will most
likely need to be working
with the
Language
and
Writing
units. Click the
book or the pencil icon to
continue.
In this example, the Language unit has been selected. Notice that topic names appear at the top of the screen. The Grammar and Usage section is commonly used, so let’s click on that topic and see what is displayed.
When you have completed a lesson, you will be shown your score. When you are ready to exit the program, Click EXIT and select YES.
Each section offered by SkillSBank4 begins with a diagnostic pretest. This can help you assess what strengths you have and what areas you may want to work on. Your instructor may also assign specific lessons. You are highly encouraged to make use of this excellent free resource. If you have any questions or problems with the program, ask one of the friendly Learning Lab staff members for assistance. They are there to help and would be happy to point you in the right direction. Happy learning! |
