Partnership. The HFCC Tech Prep Partnership is a member of the
Southeast Metro Tech Prep Consortium.
SEMCA (Southeast Michigan
Community Alliance) serves as the workforce development board for the
Southeast Metro Tech Prep Consortium. Monroe County Community College
and Wayne County Community College are also members of Southeast Metro
Tech Prep Consortium.
Over 50 Wayne and Monroe
County high schools are affiliated with the Southeast Metro Tech Prep
Consortium. Students from either county can receive articulated or
free college credit at any one of the three community colleges in the
Southeast Metro Tech Prep Consortium.

What’s the purpose
of the HFCC Tech Prep Partnership?
•
Provide professional development for
educators through programs like “Educators Visit Industry”. Teachers
and counselors spend the day touring a local business or industry
speaking with the professionals who work on-site. This event connects
educators to the people who hire their students. The educators learn
what skills employers are looking for and pass that knowledge along to
their students.
• Provide school-to-work
programs for students like “Imagine Your Future” or “Take Stock in
Your Future”. Students interested in nontraditional careers are
invited to HFCC to speak with professionals who currently work in a
nontraditional field. HFCC students majoring in a nontraditional
program mentor the high school students by giving them tips about
college and majoring in nontraditional programs at HFCC.
• Provide curriculum and
articulation meetings between high school and community college
instructors. This forum allows the two sides to meet and agree on
what courses will articulate so high school students can earn college
credit.

How is Tech Prep
funded?
The Carl D. Perkins Vocational
and Technical Act of 1998 was established to fund Tech Prep programs.
The Michigan Department of Career Development (MDCD) facilitates the
grant for the federal government. All Tech Prep programs are funded by
the Perkins grant, so Tech Prep is an example of your tax dollars
working for you. |
