What is Tech Prep?
Tech Prep coursework helps students make a seamless transition to Henry
Ford Community College, to a 4-year university, or to an apprenticeship or
training for a career after high school.

How can Tech Prep
courses save me time?
Tech Prep courses also help the student avoid taking the same class
over again in college. For example, if a student took a computer
programming class at his/her high school or tech center, there's no need
for the student to retake the class at HFCC. If the student's skills match
that class at HFCC, the student could receive college credit for that
class while still in high school. He/she could then attend HFCC by taking
the next level of coursework, so the Tech Prep process saved the student
time by not duplicating or taking the course again.

How can Tech Prep
courses save me money?
Tech Prep courses will save the student and his/her family money because
any course taken during high school is free to the student. College
students pay for their education through tuition. Public high school
students receive a free education through taxes paid by individuals who
live in the school district. Public and private high school students can
take Tech Prep classes can apply those credits earned toward college
degrees, diplomas and certificates. Again, this is all FREE of charge to
the students and their families.

What sort of courses
would be included in a Tech Prep program?
Tech Prep students learn by doing. For example, a drafting
student will actually learn how to draw an idea or a concept on the
computer and take that creation through its start-to-finish process. Tech
Prep students are trained to think "out of the box" and apply what they've
learned to real world situations. This is why Tech Prep is so valuable to
students who either enter the workforce or college after graduating from
high school.

What if a student
does not plan to attend college after he/she graduates from high school?
A Tech Prep course of study is an excellent choice for a student
interested in entering the workforce after graduating from high school.
Tech Prep classes provide superb academic and technical background for a
student who immediately wants to work after high school. It also allows
the student to become better prepared to continue working while training
for additional career opportunities.

How
can Tech Prep courses help a student who is college bound?
A Tech Prep curriculum prepares students very well for college. A Tech
Prep regiment of study will help the student with occupational skills as
well as high level academic aptitude. Again, Tech Prep will allow the high
school student to earn college credit while still in high school, so Tech
Prep is another way of earning Advanced Placement (AP) credit.
